Nature Trail

The nature trail
takes place in the beautiful Killarney
National Park opposite the school. The
children have worksheets to complete and
certain items to find and collect as the make
their way through the woods and past the
ancient monastery. The teachers encourage a
lot of interaction through English. This
is a nature reserve and perhaps Killarney's
little secret. An enclave known mostly to
locals, the blue pool is a magical place - its
waters are coloured naturally by local
limestone & other rocks. It is the halcyon
home of local wildlife - sit quietly for a few
moments and see kingfishers catching trout in
the local pool and squirrels darting in the
trees. There is a large variety of conifer and
deciduous woods, round horse-shoe shaped lake,
greeny-blue colour from copper
deposits. Afterwards, it’s back to the
classroom to display, compare and talk about
their findings.
