This beautiful mountain is located just five minutes from the school by bus. Once at the top you can see the most magnificent panoramic views of Killarney and the whole of the National Park. It is a relatively easy climb although students would need to come prepared for rain and windy conditions.

This easy four mile (six and a half kilometre) walk to the top of Torc Mountain (1,764ft/525m) is suitable for almost everyone. The trail winds around coniferous woods, heather, and mountain streams. In forested areas, wildlife abounds with birds, rabbits, hares, and even the occasional deer may pass by. Open panoramic vistas provide a top of the world feeling and a breathtaking view of the Lakes, Mountains and forests. You can spot Muckross House, Killarney town, and Ross Castle. The Macgillicuddy’s Reeks rise to the west and the Upper Lake glistens to the southwest. The walk begins at the Torc Waterfall car park. The route up to the summit of Torc Mountain climbs steadily up the open slopes of the mountain through grass and heather meadows. This route was once maintained as a bridle path and become more obvious as you ascend. In places, you’ll be able to detect the remnants of the old constructed path.
