IMMIGRATION, VISA AND STAMP 2 INFORMATION
- Stamp 2 is an immigration permission to study in Ireland; it is not an entry visa. Immigration permission is granted by Immigration Service Delivery (ISD), not by the school.
- For study lasting more than 90 days, non-EEA/non-Swiss students must be enrolled on an eligible programme. During the current transition, eligible programmes may appear on either the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP) or the TrustEd Ireland eligible programmes list.
- Check eligible programmes: official ISD / QQI information
- Depending on nationality, a student may also need an Irish entry visa. A visa-required student studying for more than 90 days normally applies for a Long Stay “D” study visa before travelling. A non-visa-required student does not need an Irish entry visa solely because of the course, but must still register immigration permission after arrival if staying for more than 90 days.
- Check whether an entry visa is required: Visa & Non-Visa Required Nationalities
- Long Stay study visa guidance: How to apply for a Long Stay study visa
- An eligible English language programme of at least 25 weeks and at least 15 classroom hours per week can support registration for Stamp 2 permission of up to eight months, subject to ISD approval and the student meeting all immigration conditions.
- English language students must attend at least 85% of classes and sit a recognised end-of-programme examination. English language study permission is normally limited to three permissions of up to eight months each, for a maximum of two years before progression to an eligible higher education programme is required.
- Stamp 2 currently permits casual employment for up to 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during the official holiday periods (June–September and 15 December–15 January). Students must not rely on casual employment to fund their stay.
- For an eight-month course, the current financial support requirement is €833 per month, up to €6,665 in total. Visa-required students demonstrate their finances during the visa application process and normally do not have to demonstrate them again at first registration. Non-visa-required students must demonstrate the required financial resources when registering their immigration permission.
- Non-EEA/non-Swiss students staying in Ireland for more than 90 days must register their immigration permission after arrival. The standard immigration registration fee is currently €300, where applicable.. Private medical insurance is also required.

- First-time registration documents: ISD required documents
- Important: immigration rules can change, and enrolment on an eligible course does not guarantee that an entry visa, permission to enter Ireland or Stamp 2 permission will be granted. The final decision rests with the Irish immigration authorities.
